IPL Treatments

Our Medical-Grade Viora V20 IPL machine offers a quick and simple way to reduce hair or improve skin texture and complexion using low-level light pulses. Receive the safest, fastest, most comfortable and most effective treatments available at Museo today!

HOW DOES IT WORK

IPL generates intense pulsed light, which converts to heat energy as it reaches the collagen layer beneath the skin. The light absorbs into the hair follicle and skin pigment, turns into heat and destroys the chromophore ( pigment in hair follicle and skin ).

Your Museo Dermal/Skin Therapist will advise you of all IPL treatment options or combination therapies available to you to get the best results at your personal consultation.

IPL Consultation is $55 and can be redeemed towards IPL bundles when purchased on day of consult. Afterpay payment plans are available and we also offer Salonpay which is an easy weekly or fortnightly direct debit payment system. IPL services can be purchased singularly for those in a ‘maintenance’ program, although initially best purchased in bundles  when needing 4-6 treatments.

COMMON QUESTIONS

IS IT PAINFUL?

The treatment will feel like a pinch or a snap of a warm elastic band. Local anaesthesia or pain medication is an option for those with low pain-threasholds, but generally this is not required. Ask us about this when you make an appointment.

Are There Side Effects?

You may experience some short-lived side effects. These may include slight reddening of the skin or local swelling which goes away within a few days. In rare instances, there may be transitory blistering or burning. On very rare occasions, temporary changes in skin colour may occur, which could last up to several months and are rarely permanent.

How Many Treatments are Required?

The number of treatments required for photo rejuvenation of sun spots, freckles and pigmentation can be subjective. Lightening will usually occur after your first treatment but if you are seeking a significant reduction in the colour of your pigmentation, you may require up to four treatments. Usually four to six treatments are required to break down large clusters of veins, depending on their severity and density. However, small amounts of superficial veins may only require one to four treatments.

Can I Use IPL to Treat Rosacea?

Yes, IPL can be a very effective weapon against the unsightly appearance of Rosacea. Using heat energy to break down the vein walls of the tiny clusters of surface veins, the treatment works the same as larger spider veins. More treatments may be required in the initial treatment phase to successfully reduce its appearance. Although successful, IPL cannot prevent the veins from returning to the skin surface. Because of this, an occasional maintenance treatment may be required to keep the Rosacea under control.

For Hair removal can I wax or shave prior?

The intense pulsed light is absorbed by the hair follicles, resulting in their heating. The follicles are damaged by the energy and these damaged follicles result in hair removal (permanent reduction). For this reason, it is important to stop waxing or plucking before you start your IPL treatment as the hair must be growing in the follicle for it to be successfully heated and damaged. It is necessary to shave or clip the hair shortly prior to your treatment after your initial consultation. We do need to see the hair colour and thickness at initial consultation

Are There Any Restrictions on My Activity After Treatment?

Generally you can return to work the same day and resume all regular activities. Your skin will not be broken and makeup can be applied immediately afterward.

It is important to always limit exposure to the sun in the weeks before and after your treatment.
