With Viora’s contact cooling system, that provides cooling before, during and after each pulse, our light technology treatments provide the most comfortable experiences possible.

What can I expect?

  • Pain – Some patients can feel discomfort during their treatment and report the light feels like a warm rubber band snapping against the skin. Exposure is limited to an extremely short pulse and most patients report minimal pain.
  • Healing – There is always the slight possibility of developing a crust or blister. This is superficial and is treated like sunburn or any other blister. Short-term side effects such as reddening and a mild burning sensation are normal and may last up to a few hours or a couple of days. These symptoms may be reduced with the application of ice to the treated area immediately afterwards.
  • Pigmentation – The treated areas will usually heal without any changes to pigment. There is however always the chance that areas of hyper pigmentation (darker foot printing) or hypo pigmentation (lighter foot printing) may occur. These are usually temporary and fade within one to six months. Sun exposure, fake tans and solarium use MUST be avoided during treatment, as it may intensify hyper pigmentation. It is rare that such a change is permanent.
  • Scarring – Is very rare but it is important to follow all of the post treatment instructions carefully.
  • Excessive swelling – May occur immediately after treatment, especially if the face has been treated. This is temporary and not harmful. Ice packs may be used to reduce the swelling.
  • Fragile skin – The skin that has been exposed should be treated gently for a few days. It should not be rubbed and when applying make-up, always pat gently.
  • Avoid Vitamin A , AHA’s and BHA’s application of creams after IPL for 5 days pre-post treatment. Includes Reinoic acid, Retinaldehyde.
