Goodbye from our Skin + Spa and Introducing the Museo Hair Collective.

We have spent the past 3 months calling all of our clients to share the news, but now we want to make the announcement completely public.

As of, June 30th, 2021, we are no longer offering beauty services under the Museo brand.

Our decision to part ways now was due to our family commitments and our personal dreams and aspirations for the next few years. I feel to do something well I have to give a 100% dedication, so it feels right to stop now when you still love everything that you do, and you do it with a full heart.

We want to be remembered for the quality service we offered in a beautiful space that truly made the ‘Museo Experience’.

We wish to thank each and every one of you for your kind words around our change of direction over the past few months.

During July, we will also offer recommendations for a new day spa, if that is something you would like. Depending on the kinds of treatments you love, we can recommend you to some of our Museo favourites for those particular treatments. All you have to do is email us at museohome@westnet.com.au and we can get you into a beautiful day spa that we know will take care of you in the absolute best way.

This isn’t a sad goodbye. It’s like when your best friend moves overseas for a while – you’re so thrilled that she’s doing this wonderful thing and excited for the journey she is on, but you’re going to miss her all the same.

In the last week, we have finalised where our new space will be for the Collective. Don't worry it is close, with easy parking, but what's great is it includes a gorgeous space for a Beauty Room. We will be offering this space within The Collective,  as part of the new business, which Helen and Claudia after a couple of months off will be looking at joining so, maybe it’s goodbye for now, but certainly not forever…

Introducing Museo Hair Collective

The Museo Hair collective is comprised of Adam Michetti and Melanie Sheratt who have worked together for the past 7 years. They are supported and backed up by the ever impressive Serena, our talented apprentice, to form the Museo Hair Collective.

Whilst we will be moving the salon sometime in the future, the Museo Hair Collective will continue to operate out of 690 Beaufort Street Mt Lawley. We promise you will know when we move and we will be personally calling you to let you know.

Our thanks

Thanks to our beautiful therapists Claudia, Helen, and Misty. They put their heart and soul into each day and for each client. We know you will miss them and think of them fondly. We might be able to entice them out of retirement to join the collective, you never know ….. watch this space

On a personal note, I have been blessed to work with many beautiful people over these past 22 years but none more so than these 3 lovely humans, and Adam, and I have truly enjoyed working alongside you and thankful for the laughs and fun times we’ve all had together.

Thank you to our gorgeous English Rose Beth who has worked for us this past year on reception. Forever part of our lives, we thank you for your time with us …

Our right-hand person, jack of all trades, manager, and office manager, Brooke we thank you. This is not goodbye as your work is never done as we know, but without you, Museo doesn’t operate. You are the extra amigo with Adam and I, and we thank you for being a part of our lives these last 10 years.

I would also like to say a massive thank you to all the previous Therapists, Hairdressers, Managers, Trainers Receptionists, and Office Administrators we’ve employed over the past 22 years. With a staff at times of over 37, it was successful with the help of great people who collectively helped us co-ordinate, manage and train our staff so that they could create a beautiful world of escapism and service for our clients to enjoy.

To you our clients who loved our Beauty Space - a warm thank you. For 22 years I walked through our doors happy to offer a luxe service across skin and spa and probably more important the opportunity of a positive workplace for us all to contribute within and form life long friendships with not only each other but also within our Museo community.

Lastly, I thank my loving husband Adam. We have had a working life together right from the beginning, spanning over 25 years.  Our business evolved, decisions and directions were always done as a team, whilst raising our children and always loving each other. Thank you babe for always being there and for your care and love. It is always strong, visible and honest.

Everything you need to know about Skin Needling in Perth

Everything you need to know about Skin Needling in Perth

We are all looking for ways to combat aging and ensure that no matter our age, we look better than we might be feeling - less tired, less drawn, more plump and shiny – right?!

One of the best ways to combat aging and really refresh your skin is through skin needling, also referred to as micro-needling or Dermapen treatments if you use the Dermapen for needling like we do here at Museo. For those interested in this powerful anti-aging treatment, we wanted to take a bit of a dive into the treatment and talk about WHY skin needling could be the answer to your anti-aging skin goals.

What is skin needling?

An absolute powerhouse of a treatment, Skin Needling resurfaces the skin and combats signs of aging by generating new, healthy skin cells (called fibroblasts) that make your skin plump, shiny and fresh and most importantly RENEWED

Skin needling is designed to create a safe healing response within the body to ignite natural collagen and elastin production in the skin, without the side effects and downtime you sometimes see with similar treatments like IPL or Laser. Skin needling also repairs the surface layers to result in skin that looks brighter, tighter, more even-toned with refined pores and reduced wrinkles. It’s scientifically proven and you will see results from the first session -

“Histological examination of the skin treated with 4 microneedling sessions 1 month apart shows up to 400% increase in collagen and elastin deposition at 6 months postoperatively, with a thickened stratum spinosum and normal rete ridges at 1 year postoperatively. Collagen fibre bundles appear to have a normal lattice pattern rather than parallel bundles as in scar tissue.
– “Microneedling: Advances and widening horizons” Aashim Singh and Savita Yadav

How does skin needling work?

When the needle tip makes contact with the skin, it creates tiny punctures in the surface of the skin, causing the creation of new, healthy collagen. Skin needling is really the only true antiaging treatment which instigates the production of fibroblast cells that makes new collagen. By working on the skin's surface and deeper into the dermis, we force it to send more blood, lymph flow and healing power to the skin. Particularly with skin needling, growth factors are triggered, which are responsible for supporting the repair of damaged skin, making components that provide firmness and elasticity to the skin while helping to maintain the skin’s protective functions. The punctures also act as micro-channels, carrying the topical nutrients used during the treatment deep into the skin layers for increased effect.

Through this process of neovascularisation and neocollagenesis, there is improvement in skin texture and firmness, as well as a reduction in scars and pore size.

Increasing cellular renewal is essential to maintain a healthy luminous looking skin and when fibroblasts are triggered through skin needling treatments, your skin activates these cells – building new collagen (which many of us older folk haven’t done for a long time), resulting in a more luminous glow, plumped skin, reduced lines and smoother overall appearance. Most importantly for compromised skins and reddened skins needling will thicken the epidermis and strengthen the surface layer, reducing the appearance of capillaries and improving and healing the acid mantle.

What conditions is skin needling suitable for?

Skin needling is suitable for all skin types. Whilst the most common concerns addressed through the use of skin needling include ageing, wrinkles, capillaries and post-acne scars, more challenging conditions such as acne, alopecia, rosacea, stretch marks, pigmentation and even vitiligo can be treated using this technique.

Perfect for face, lip area, eye area, neck, chest, hands, and even your scalp, skin needling is one of the best skin resurfacing improving treatments you can get, as well as being one of the most natural ways to achieve skin correction. With results after just one treatment (although we do recommend a course of them for correction results), Dermapen Skin Needling offers great results for the price.

Museo have been working with clients across Perth to improve the look of their skin, from aging and fine lines through to significant acne scarring, using Dermapen Skin Needling treatments.

“ I still have a while to go with my skin and am looking forward to getting more skin needling in the future but I can’t believe how far my skin has come!"
- Sophie, Museo client.

WHAT IS HYALURONIC ACID AND WHY DOES THE CONCENTRATION MATTER?

Hy-a-lu-ron-ic Acid.

We’ve all seen the ads, and if you’re at all into your skincare you’ve heard about Hyaluronic Acid. Every skincare company worth their salt has a product that includes it, but this ingredient is quite misunderstood. What is it? What does it do? Why is everyone raving about it? And does a high concentration of Hyaluronic Acid really matter?

We’ve got the answers for you. Read on!

WHAT IS HYALURONIC ACID

Hyaluronic acid is not, as the name would suggest, acidic. Don’t worry, this isn’t like a chemical peel. Hyaluronic acid is actually a type of sugar found naturally in all layers of the skin, as well as in your joint fluids and a bunch of other places in the body. Hyaluronic acid works in combination with collagen in your skin to create structure and tone – and that’s why it’s so raved about in skincare circles as an anti-aging ingredient.

Hyaluronic is a powerful humectant, meaning that it draws water and holds water, much like a sponge, binding water to your skin and increasing hydration. It actually holds 1000x its own weight in water – so you only need a little to get the benefits of this ingredient for skin renewal and developing healthy new tissue. This results in a completely refreshed and revived complexion, reduction in redness and plumping out of fine lines. Even open pores and scars look softer and smoother, and your skin overall has a better texture and tone. Powerful stuff right!

Hyaluronic acid is most often (and most effectively) combined with a powerful moisturiser, like olive, avocado, linoleic acid, oleic acid, coconut oil, shea or cocoa butter. While Hyaluronic acid is great at bringing moisture to the skin, it needs help keeping it there, and these moisturising ingredients do exactly that.

The reason the concentration of Hyaluronic acid is important is because it actually acts as an indicator of the kind of hyaluronic acid that is being used in the product. The low molecular weight version of hyaluronic acid can cause reactions in your skin, break the skin barrier and generally be a pest for your skin. These products rate at around the 0.2-0.5% HA mark and are often bought over the counter. Professional quality products with high molecular weight hyaluronic acid typically rank in the 0.5-1% HA mark, ensuring that you’re getting a serious dose of this powerhouse ingredient. There’s also Hylasome a Sodium Hyaluronate Cross Polymer which can penetrate the skin at different levels due to the activity of Hyaluronic Acid at varying molecule weights, giving it the power to hold 5 times the water-binding capacity of traditional Hyaluronic Acid. This is what O Cosmedics use as its main Hyaluronic acid ingredient in the O Cosmedics 3D Hyaluronic Serum.

MICRO-NEEDLING + HYALURONIC ACID

When performing skin needling our base mesoglide ( solution to use to glide with the micro-needling pen and push further into the skin) is Hyaluronic acid (HA). The HA in the DP Dermaceuticals is measured 10 milligrams. One of our new mesoglides we are now launching in-salon has 35 milligrams of HA! This level is higher than what is in an injectable, which you can now experience as a mesoglide serum with micro-needling sans injection.

Ahead of 2021, Museo has released our Powerhouse Anti-Aging Package which includes treatments designed to seriously change the way your skin looks, like Dermapen Skin Needling which increases collagen production, and the NEW DP Meso Glide serums which deliver the highest available dose potent, professional-level doses of hyaluronic acid (amongst other actives like peptides and zinc) to your skin for a double-whammy of skin rejuvenating and boosting ingredients. We also sell a range of at-home skincare products including hyaluronic acid that have been clinically tested to show up to a 76% increase in hydration in your skin. Those are the kind of results we all want in our skincare.

If you’re serious about changing your skin, hyaluronic acid is something that you’ve got to get familiar with and incorporate as part of your daily skincare routine. Make sure you look for products with a high molecular weight hyaluronic acid included and request it as part of any professional treatments. We want to help you achieve your best-ever skin with Museo! Learn more about our Powerhouse Anti-Aging Package here or book in for your next skin treatment via the website today.

10 Powerful superfoods for fantastic skin in 2020 | Museo

10 POWERFUL SUPERFOODS FOR FANTASTIC SKIN IN 2020

We all know you are what you eat. But most particularly, your skin really is what you eat. At Museo, we are all about superfoods and doing the best we can with our wholistic wellness and seeing the results on your skin is an amazing added bonus. Here are the superfoods you really should be eating if you want to see your best skin in 2020.

Avocado

Budget be damned, these beautiful green babies are the key to great skin, good hair and a happy gut. These superfood fruits have super hydrating complexion powers – they’re packed with healthy monounsaturated fats to give you a plump, happy inner glow. They’re full of Vitamin E, which we have long known helps maintain the skins barrier function and prevents moisture loss.

Citrus Fruits

The vitamin C content of citrus fruits helps your skin support beautiful collagen, which helps smooth over fine lines and wrinkles. A good intake of vitamin c is touted as being the key ingredient in improving skins overall texture – and many of us aren’t getting enough. Drinking a glass of warm water with a whole lemon squeezed into it in the morning is not only cleansing for your gut but helps you to increase your vitamin c intake dramatically, helping to improve your skin.

Note: Our fav morning additive to our day cream is the chirally corrected Pure C and BHA with 5% L’Ascorbic Acid with encapsulated BHA. It offers daily exfoliation and antioxidant benefits second to none. Perfect for all skins in fact an absolute daily must for keeping your skin looking fresh as well as being protected.

Carrots

We have spoken in depth about retinol before, and most of your anti-aging skincare products now contain this super ingredient. But where do we get retinol from in our food? Carrots. Carrots contain a high level of beta carotene, which is converted into retinol and thus into Vitamin A. Vitamin A is one of the major ingredients needed for the skin to rejuvenate, self-heal and soothe. A carrot a day is sure to help your skin get that glowing look.

Blueberries

Blueberries have been on the superfoods list for years, not only for their exceptionally high antioxidant levels but for their anthocyanins, which are thought to help fight cancer. Current research suggests that eating blueberries is a great way to rid your skin of toxins and free radicals, helping clear your skin from the inside out.

Note: I’ve heard whispers that the new Queen Plums grown in Australia offer a higher amount of antioxidants than blueberries … do some research!

Pomegranate

Pomegranates contain a potent antioxidant called polyphenols, as well as 3 times the antioxidants of green tea or red wine. The polyphenols protect your skin from strong, damaging UV rays, as well as helping reverse the signs of aging like fine lines and wrinkles. You can also add more pomegranate to your diet by using the Miss Vitality Elevate nutritional blend, designed to give you a nutrient boost for your lifestyle.

|  BUY IT NOW  |

Broccoli

Not only are cruciferous vegetables filling and full of a huge number of antioxidants, but broccoli, in particular, is loaded with vitamin c which boosts collagen production to soften fine lines and wrinkles. Look out for any supplements containing power greens – they’ll often include broccoli (or it’s little cousin spinach) to help boost your overall nutrition and vitamin c intake.

Salmon

Salmon helps ensure that you are well hydrated, which obviously reflects in your skin. The combination of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids in salmon will nourish your skin from the inside out. If the idea of eating more fish really doesn’t appeal, you can always take the Miss Vitality Good Oil capsules, each containing 1000mg of fish oil from small fish sources, which is better for the environment.

Capsicum

Capsicum is PACKED with vitamin C – approximately 3 times that found in your average orange. Long a favorite in the Korean beauty market, the vitamin C from capsicum both brightens the skin, thanks to its antioxidant strength, and firms your skin as it helps you to produce more collagen. Win win.

Walnuts

Walnuts are a powerhouse of good skin nutrients. They’re packed with protective antioxidants, nourishing omega-3’s and tonnes of other vitamins, minerals and fibre. Whether you eat them as a snack, add them into pesto instead of pine nuts or include them in your morning smoothie, these nuts will give your skin the pep it needs.

Edamame

A staple in Japanese households and long thought to be the secret behind Japanese women’s ability to age impeccably is the edamame. These soy beans are full of isoflavone, a phytoestrogen that has skin-plumping abilities. For those of us on the downward side of the estrogen cycle (no judgement here!) it can give us back a bit of the glow that we had in our 20’s. It’s simple – just order a side of edamame with your sushi and you’re good to go.

By eating your way to better health, you can guarantee that not only your skin will feel the benefits, but your waistline and your gut microbiome will too. The team at Museo are more and more focussed on an inside-out approach to skin health, and we want to help you power your skin through your food. If you’re keen to make a serious change in your skin, we would love to help you.

Ingestible vs. topical skincare – the best way to get great skin.

In our busy lives, we are all trying to find ways to supercharge our results with as little effort or output as possible. We want nail polish that’s top coat, base coat and colour all in one. We want a phone that is also a diary and a camera and a computer. And so, we see that many of our clients come in wanting to supercharge their anti-aging skin treatments – and the answer, is through ingestible skincare products.

Ingestibles are new-ish to the market and were seriously designed for those of us who might be a bit lacking in our diet or struggling to eat the recommended quantities of the nutrients we know we need. Yes, a well-balanced diet can absolutely give you all the nutrients you need to keep your skin and nails looking healthy – but while I try for a well-balanced diet every day, there are typically 3 days in the week where I don’t get to lunch because I’m just too busy, and no matter how well I eat, I simply cannot consume enough of the essential vitamins and minerals that I need in two meals a day. Ingestibles can instead make all the difference.

It’s important to remember that Ingestibles alone aren’t going to fix all of your skin woes for you – they’re definitely designed to act in conjunction with topical treatments. Similarly, if your diet is all over the shop or not great, no facial in the world will save you from the damage that comes from drinking too much champagne or eating fried foods. Diet, stress, alcohol consumption and sleep will all impact your skin health, so first things first – check you’re doing your best in all these areas. When life gets in the way (which it often does), this is where Ingestibles can be a serious boost to your skin.

It’s important to note not all Ingestibles are rated equal, which is why we spend so much time investigating and researching at Museo to ensure that the products we put on our shelves are the absolute best for our clients. We are dedicated to knowing what goes on our skin and take the same care and attention for those products we are putting in our bodies and recommending to our clients. We have seen Collagen Powder formulations, for instance, that literally contained zero collagen. Seriously. Similarly, you want to avoid synthetic sources of nutrients and focus on those that come from whole or natural food sources to reap the best results. So, it pays to pay attention to the detail and check your product – or speak to any of our skin therapists who have done the work for you.

One of the superstars of the Ingestibles movement is anything with true collagen, including powders, tonics and even cookies (we’re not kidding – cookies that are great for your skin!) Collagen offers fantastic bang for your buck as it is one of the major ingredients in your hair, skin and nails. As we age, our ability to produce collagen is diminished, leaving your hair feeling dry and brittle, your skin looking chalky and lines showing more and your nails snapping off. The body can’t store collagen, and so the easiest way to make a difference to the appearance of your hair skin and nails is to add more collagen to your diet. This might be through collagen-rich foods like slow-cooked meats, fish or bone broth (my personal favourite, especially in the cooler months), or if you’re feeling time-poor, through a collagen snack or supplement.

Collagen works best as a complete collagen peptide product or when which includes the nutrients needed for absorption; or when eaten in conjunction with Vitamin C, which also aids in absorption of the collagen into your system. Collagen peptides are better ingested than applied topically, as the molecule is too large to be absorbed during the skin. In addition, including collagen as an ingestible in your skin-care routine can aid in the body’s natural production of hyaluronic acid (which is a natural humectant, meaning it helps attract and store more water in the skin, keeping your skin looking plumper and firmer) and its one of the most effective things you can do to change the appearance of your skin over the age of 30.

In contrast, some nutrients are best applied topically. Take Vitamin C for example – while you can eat plenty of it in a well-balanced, whole food diet, topical applications of Vitamin C can be potent allowing this antioxidant to reduce pigmentation and induce collagen production. However, studies show that ingesting additional Vitamin C can have limited usefulness (specifically for your skin). But as we have already spoken about, making sure that you eat SOME Vitamin C is essential to the absorption of things like Collagen.

The crux of the conversation on Ingestibles vs. topical treatments is that both work best in conjunction with each other. You need to look at your skin goals and work out which areas are best treated with topical treatments and which will benefit seriously from adding an ingestible to your routine. If you combine this with good sleep, a clean-ish diet and lowering your intake of sugar and alcohol, you are sure to be on your way to better skin. If you don’t know where to start, one of our skin therapists would love to help. Book in for a complimentary skin consultation today and let’s help you have your best-ever skin with Museo.

A beginner’s guide to aromatherapy and basic scents

A beginner’s guide to aromatherapy and basic scents

Anyone who has ever lit a candle knows the power that scent can have on your mood, and while aromatherapy isn’t an exact science, there’s more to essential oils than simply nice scents. They can dramatically change your mood; improve clarity and we use them extensively here at Museo to promote serious relaxation during our signature day spa treatments. So, we are going to share with you today a beginner’s guide to aromatherapy and basic scents to help you get the most out of essential oils and how you can use them to your advantage.

Ready? Let’s go.

What are essential oils

Essential oils are highly concentrated plant extracts that are distilled from the plant matter through different extraction methods, like steam distillation. Popular oils include Eucalyptus oil, lavender oil, and tea tree oil, but believe it or not, there are actually thousands of known essential oils with about 300 available in a commercial way, and all promote a range of health and lifestyle benefits.

Where does aromatherapy come into it?

Aromatherapy has been used for thousands of years to encourage relaxation, healing, a sense of wellness and as part of a beauty routine. When essential oils are inhaled, the molecules rise to the top of the nose and sent through to the olfactory bulb, which acts as an amplifier, through the olfactory nerve into the limbic system of the brain.

It’s about creating a strong experience that triggers a reaction in our limbic system from the scent of the oil that connects to both emotions and long-term memory. How you feel about a scent is deeply personal and can often be brought about because of association.

What Makes Essential Oils Effective?

Some essential oils are soothing, toning, and grounding, while others are energizing, warming, and renewing—but all essential oils are natural. The variety of essential oils allows you to naturally and effectively maintain health and address your specific health concerns.

Different scents can promote different responses in the body and mind -

For easing stress and anxiety: Lavender, cedarwood, lemon, bergamot, orange, and sage and chamomile.

For skin care: Lavender, carrot seed, rose, rosehip, frankincense, geranium, tea tree, ylang-ylang, and patchouli.

For cleaning: Eucalyptus, pine, and lemon.

For a pick-me-up: Lemon, orange, grapefruit, rosemary and peppermint.

For muscle tension and inflammation: peppermint, eucalyptus, chamomile, Myrrh and rosemary

For immune-boosting: Lemon, lavender, tea tree, eucalyptus, oregano, thyme, orange, and cinnamon.

These are just general recommendations though. Often our clients come into Museo with a memory of a particular smell, like their mum always using lavender oil at home, that they find particularly relaxing.

How are essential oils used?

Essential oils can be used from your diffuser to your cleaning products and depending on which oils you choose they may be more suited for some applications over others. I love a bit of lemon essential oil + white vinegar for a simple surface cleaning spray, but that’s definitely not a scent I want to be incorporated in my beauty treatments, for instance. Adding eucalyptus to a steam inhalation if you’ve got a cold or flu is a great way to clear the sinuses and flush out your nasal passage, but hardly relaxing or calming. It’s all in choosing the right scent for the right moment in my mind!

I ensure when flying that I take On Guard with me, which is a mix of Wild Orange Peel, Clove Bud, Cinnamon Leaf, Cinnamon Bark, Eucalyptus Leaf, and Rosemary Leaf/Flower essential oils. I make the family inhale through a tissue as we hop onto the plane to protect against environmental pathogens and seasonal cold and flu threats in the cabin and a little dab under the nose throughout the flight works well too.

At Museo, we use essential oils to create your own distinct blended scent that guides you through your treatments with us. By associating a gorgeous blend of oils with a relaxing treatment like our Aromatherapy Massage, you create a connection between that scent and relaxing, gorgeous treatments – which allows you to then replicate that relaxed feeling at home when you smell that same scent. Our Mindfulness Facial starts with a scent journey, suiting your mood for the day and follows with guided meditation paired with the senses for a deeply relaxing experience. Your Museo Wellness Warrior will sit with you and guide you through a range of scents to find the ones that encourage a relaxing and restorative feeling in you and use those throughout your treatment. Whether it’s in an aromatherapy massage, candle meditation, or mindfulness facial, we will use these powerful scents to create a truly sensory experience for you.

If you could use an escape and a moment to yourself, now is the time to try an Aromatherapy Massage or Mindfulness Facial with the Museo team. We are ready to whisk you away from your day-to-day and take you on a sensory journey that is all about you and reducing stress and exhaustion. Book your appointment with us online and come ready to be transported into a space of deep relaxation. We can’t wait to welcome you inside Museo.

The BEST resurfacing treatments for your skin.

Skin resurfacing is one of the most effective ways to create serious change in your skin. These treatments stimulate collagen production, giving you the appearance of plumper and fuller skin; removes the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and can help repair more serious skin concerns like pigmentation, scarring or deep lines and wrinkles.

There’s plenty of options and misinformation available for skin resurfacing, and so we wanted to break down for you the absolute BEST skin resurfacing treatments available on the market.

What do skin resurfacing treatments do?

Skin resurfacing treatments are focussed on removing the upper layer of the skin, the one that appears dry and dull and dead. By removing this layer, we are able to expose the beautiful, soft, new skin underneath, giving your face, hands, neck or décolletage a more beautiful, natural, overall glow. Most skin resurfacing treatments are designed to encourage the body’s natural repairing actions, which increase collagen and elastin production and increase the flow of blood to the face. This is what truly gives you that glow back in your skin.

Are skin resurfacing treatments for everyone?

The short answer is no, and the long answer really is maybe. Skin resurfacing treatments are designed with more mature or troublesome skin in mind – this is not for teen acne, this is not for sensitive skin and this is not for fresh baby skin. This is for skin that has seen some time and really needs a refresh. That said, everyone can benefit from skin resurfacing treatments at some stage in their life, it’s just about finding the right treatment for you.

The best resurfacing treatments for your skin

Skin Needling

An absolute powerhouse of a treatment, Skin Needling resurfaces the skin and combats signs of aging by generating new, healthy skin cells (called fibroblasts) that make your skin plump, shiny and fresh. We use Dermapen at Museo, which creates a safe healing response within the body to ignite natural collagen and elastin production in the skin, while also repairing the surface layers of the skin, to create a brighter, tighter and more even-toned skin. The only true antiaging treatment which instigates the fibroblast cell that makes new collagen.

IPL for Skin Rejuvenation

The new kid on the block in the skin resurfacing game, IPL for Skin Rejuvenation is one of the most effective treatments available. IPL is the ideal option for instantly treating and clearing reddened skins with facial vascular blemishes such as broken capillaries, spider veins, thread veins, red spots, and cherry angiomas. Regain an even balanced skin tone and treat skin discolouration issues, pigmentation, sun damage, acne scarring, and brown spots. The great thing with IPl is your first treatment gives significant results. IPL for Photo Rejuvenation (vascular + pigmentation ) is usually done in a series of treatments to cause rapid rejuvenation of the skin cells. Each treatment varies in time depending on the area being treated, for full face allow 60 mins and we generally recommend a course of 4-6 treatments to ensure really effective results. Winter is the perfect time for IPL for Photo Rejuvenation as the skin is often very sensitive to UV rays after treatment. For many clients, pigmentation can clear up to 70% in their first treatment which desquamates off the surface in approximately 7-10 days. You can have a clearer skin very quickly with minimal downtime. Most clients clearing pigment are very comfortable working the day after having IPL and using a minimal coverage foundation. We recommend using our Mineral Pro SPF Cream post-treatment to effectively protect your skin from sun damage and moisturise your skin post-treatment.

Museo Skin + Spa + Hair are offering IPL for Photo Rejuvenation to our clients in our beautiful Spa space and with some amazing offers available to you today. Book for an IPL consult - Read more about our IPL offering here.

Microdermabrasion

Microdermabrasion is one of the gentlest, fastest anti-aging, and skin correcting treatments. Microdermabrasion is a mechanical way of skin resurfacing, exfoliating the upper layers of the skin by using a fine abrasive crystal (aluminum oxide) The intensity can be varied to suit an individual skin type, from light exfoliation to a deep resurfacing. This resurfacing effect helps to improve skin texture, brightness, and pigmentation while preventing epidermal thickening and reducing sebum production.

Microdermabrasion is predominantly used to treat ageing skins, thickened skins, acne scarring, enlarged pores and congestion. The best results are when teamed with an enzyme or dermal peel. Microdermabrasion is a suitable skin treatment for most skins, especially post acneic or thickened skins but is not appropriate for sensitive and compromised skins.

When microdermabrasion is combined with other treatments like chemical peels or hydrating masks, it can pack a serious punch and show significant results in your skin. Why you should book consecutive skincare treatments for the best results.

Why you should book consecutive skincare treatments for the best results.

Your skin goes through a lot. Whether it’s slathering makeup on and forgetting to take it off (we are all guilty here) or damage from the sun or a little too much wine on the weekends resulting in a dry mouth and dry skin the next day – we know your skin is suffering.

Luckily, in this day and age, we have the choice not to look like a leather handbag at age 40. You can completely take control of your skin care and make an incredible change in the quality of your skin – but nothing great is ever achieved overnight.

If you’re serious about making a change in your skin, you should be booking in for a series of treatments that combine multiple therapies to see real results. By having consecutive treatments, we are able to layer different treatment options and truly dig into the issues in your skin and take a calculated, strategic approach to solve them.

The same as you wouldn’t be able to lighten your hair in just one session, true change in your skin is achieved with time. Healing and skin repair between treatments means that after each treatment your skin is glowing, dewy and ready to face the world again. A single session is great for a pick-me-up but simply isn’t going to deliver the same significant or lasting change that having a series of treatments done will be.

People always rave about how amazing brides look on their wedding day, how they glow and look their most beautiful – often this is because, during the lead up to their wedding, women spend more time on their beauty treatments and routines than ever before. They book in for a number of beauty appointments to look their best, from facials and peels to microdermabrasion, IPL skin rejuvenation and Skin Needling, to ensure they have the best skin they can for their wedding day - and the results speak for themselves. So why don’t we apply this same thinking to our everyday skin? Why can’t every day be your best skin day?

Now is the time to dedicate to your skin - whether it’s ahead of your wedding, before your birthday or a special upcoming event. With cumulative treatments, you will see an incredible change in your skin and have the best skin of your life.

We know getting time away from your busy life for good skin is as rare as hen's teeth – but dedication and commitment truly is the price of good skin. Book your appointments in advance, block the time out in your diary the minute you make your appointment and just remember that this is being done for your future self and future skin.

HOW TO CARE FOR WINTER SKIN - FACE

We spoke last time about the damaging effects that winter has on the body, and the face is absolutely no different. From dryness, redness and dehydrated skins for those of us working indoors in heating or outside in the cold - winter is harsh. And there is nowhere on the body you least want untameable skin than your face.

We have brought together our top tips for caring for your winter skin to ensure that you have a healthy glow, not a ruddy complexion, around the campfire this winter.

  1. Exfoliate

Remove dried skin cells and reveal your new beautiful skin with gentle exfoliation, specifically designed for the sensitive skin on your face. Whether you choose to go with a granular scrub with your facial or prefer to move towards an enzyme-based peel or microdermabrasion, the team at Museo Skin + Spa will tailor the level of exfoliation to your skin’s requirements.

  1. Steam

Rather than scalding your face with hot water in your shower, steam your way to beautiful skin! Steam opens up the pores in your face, allowing your skin to better absorb treatments, essential oils and moisturisers applied to your skin, allowing these treatments to penetrate deep into your skin, preparing you for better skin in the future. It is also the necessary step to prep the skin for extracting impurities and congestion, giving your skin a beautiful smooth, even finish.

  1. Treat

Whether it is with a mask, designed to tighten your pores and give deep moisturisation to your skin; or with essential oils, known for their restorative and regenerative properties – choosing a facial treatment is the next step in restoring your Winter skin.  For truly spectacular results, take your facial to the next level with our O Cosmedics Pro Dermal Peel Facial – completely customizable to include active ingredients perfect for your winter skin and with all the benefits of a dermal peel to achieve skin optimisation and truly target problem areas.

  1. Moisturise

A thick, rich moisturiser is the best way to ensure that your skin is protected from the elements and that all the treatments you have put into your skin will stay there. Moisturise day and night to see the best benefits and help plump your skin and give you that beautiful, fresh rosy glow that we are all looking for at this time of year. Choose a high-quality moisturiser enriched with extracts to truly conquer your Winter skin woes.

Museo Skin + Spa want you to truly love your Winter skin and have a range of facials designed to give you your most beautiful skin this season. From our Clinical Facials to any of our Pro Dermal Peel Facials, we can help combat whatever winter skin concerns you are facing, from dryness and tightness to sun damage and ageing. Read more about the facial treatments available to you on our website or book in for a relaxing and restorative treatment with Museo Skin + Spa online today. Check out latest seasonal offers here

Winter Skin Offers | Why winter is the time to tackle your skin | Museo

WHY WINTER IS THE TIME TO TACKLE YOUR SKIN

Winter is a time to replenish and renew – we eat richer and more nourishing foods, sleep in later and take things a little slower. That means great things for the state of your skin, and now is the time to tackle those skin issues that seem to plague you year after year and really get on top of your most important asset.

Winter means less time in the sun for most people. Not only is the weather not conducive to staying outside for hours at a time (hello, Rainy Perth), but the sun is literally less harsh than it is in summer. That means less incidental damage to your skin, which gives us greater options for skin treatments that will really make a difference in the quality and appearance of your skin.

Treatments like chemical peels, IPL, skin needling and microdermabrasion all cause some changes to the skin – deliberately. By working on the skin surface and deeper dermally we force it to send more blood, lymph flow and healing power to the skin. Particularly with skin needling, growth factors are triggered, which are responsible for supporting the repair of damaged skin, making components that provide firmness and elasticity to the skin while helping to maintain the skin’s protective functions. Increasing cellular renewal is essential to maintain a healthy luminous looking skin and when fibroblasts are triggered through skin needling treatments, your skin activates these cells - building new collagen (which many of us older folk haven’t done for a long time), resulting in a more luminous glow, plumped skin, reduced lines and smoother overall appearance. These are the treatments of today and widely popular by those who have them because results speak for themselves.

Micropunctures are created using microneedles which produce a controlled skin injury without actually damaging the epidermis. These microinjuries lead to minimal superficial bleeding and set up a wound healing cascade with release of various growth factors such as platelet derived growth factor (PGF), transforming growth factor alpha and beta (TGF-α and TGF-β), connective tissue activating protein, connective tissue growth factor, and fibroblast growth factor (FGF). The needles also breakdown the old hardened scar strands and allow it to revascularize. Neovascularization and neocollagenesis is initiated by migration and proliferation of fibroblasts and laying down of intercellular matrix. A fibronectin matrix forms after 5 days of injury that determines the deposition of collagen resulting in skin tightening persisting for 5–7 years in the form of collagen III... Histological examination of the skin treated with 4 microneedling sessions 1 month apart shows upto 400% increase in collagen and elastin deposition at 6 months postoperatively, with a thickened stratum spinosum and normal rete ridges at 1 year postoperatively.Collagen fibre bundles appear to have a normal lattice pattern rather than parallel bundles as in scar tissue.
- "Microneedling: Advances and widening horizons" Aashim Singh and Savita Yadav"

However, your skin will go through some changes depending on its health and the skin goals we are working towards, so the process varies skin to skin and sometimes, with these changes, the new skin forming and moving to the surface whilst the dead skin is being eradicated means you can very easily get sunburnt in summer. That’s why we really don’t suggest having your most heavy skin resurfacing procedures done during the summer months - if you cannot ensure you can stay completely out of the sun, we don’t want to damage your beautiful new skin.

This makes winter the perfect time to tackle heavy treatments that will allow you to see significant results. By taking the time to plan your skin program or treatments during Winter you have the time for your skin to recover, giving you beautiful, luminous, clear skin that is ready to face the sun and UV rays come September. This is also true for IPL treatments if you’re keen to ditch the razor this summer. For those customers getting IPL for Hair Removal, not only do you protect the surface of the skin as you cover up more in winter, but it is easier to see how reduced your hair is as it grows back between 4-6 weekly IPL treatments without having to stay away from the beach or outside activities as you do when doing IPL in summer. Did you know that you can generally reduce most of your hair in your first 3 treatments? So if you get onto IPL for Hair Removal now you’ll be legs and bikini ready for summer!  Read more on IPL here.

Whether you’re getting IPL for Pigmentation, Vascular treatments or Hair removal, we encourage you to get your IPL treatments done this winter so that you have beautiful, smooth and the healthiest blemish free skin possible come summer.

The 7 essential steps every skincare routine needs

Understanding and committing to a skincare routine can seem way too hard and confusing for some. What products go where? How often? What happens if you over-do or under-do a step? What’s more important in my skin routine? Where do specific tools, like sheet masks or rollers, come into the equation?

If you haven’t yet had a consultation with one of Museo’s skin specialists, never fear! We have the 7 essential steps every skincare routine needs for you here which forms a great base for those looking to refresh, revamp or simply START with a skincare routine. These are the basics for a strong routine and truly the best place to start getting your skin looking its best.

To access any of our O Cosmedics products online, you will need a password provided by Museo.
Simply send us an email to shop O Cosmedics online.

If you already have the basics covered and you’re ready to take things up a notch, come speak to the team at Museo – our Skin Specialists can guide you towards a more elevated homecare regime that is specifically designed for those looking to achieve more significant results.

TOP TIP – skincare doesn’t JUST mean your face. Make sure you apply these products to your neck, décolletage and even the back of your hands as these are all areas that also age in the same kind of way as your face, and you don’t want a luminous gorgeous face with sun spotted hands and a reddened pigmented décolletage.

Ok! Let’s get started. Here are your 7 essential steps every skincare routine needs:

CLEANSE –

Once in the morning and TWICE at night, EVERY DAY.

The second round of cleansing is needed at night to ensure that the last residue of any makeup you’ve been wearing during the day is removed. The first time you cleanse, you’re really only swishing the cleanser to break up the makeup and you cannot remove entirely with one cleanse. The second cleanse guarantees a thorough cleanse of remaining make-up, dirt and impurities - so make sure you don’t skip it to ensure your skin is clean and ready for the next step. And PLEASE ditch the makeup wipes – they’re full of chemicals and leave a residue on your skin. They have their place if you use an organic face wipe to quickly remove mascara or make-up prior to a gym workout and also good afterward if a shower is a while away to remove the sweat. Use a warm flannel, shammy or cleansing brush to remove the cleanser once you have properly worked it into your skin and thank us later.

EXFOLIATE –

You’re going to want to exfoliate 3 times a week

You can choose to use either a physical exfoliator or an enzyme exfoliator. A physical exfoliator is the more traditional style, with a bit of grit in it to help polish away dead skin cells – but avoid anything with plastic microbeads in it, as they have been proven to be terrible for you. Instead, try something with a more natural exfoliant. Our O Cosmedics Exfoliating Cleanser is a great choice, empowered with not one but four physical exfoliating beads (cranberry seeds, jojoba beads, diatomaceous earth and LexFeel 200- a 100% natural, readily biodegradable, sustainable emollient). The skin is left super hydrated, radiant and awakened.

Your other option is an enzyme exfoliant, which essentially creates a chemical reaction on your skin to slough away those dead skin cells. Products with a little lactic acid in them are exceptionally popular, and these are great to apply at the start of your shower and then to leave on for 3-5 minutes to allow them to do their magic.

Exfoliation is one of the most crucial steps in your routine and one we often see clients getting wrong. You HAVE to remove those redundant surface skin cells to reveal the healthier, new skin underneath. This is the step that moves your skin from a thickened, aging hide into a fresher looking, more refined, youthful-glow-type skin. The serums and moisturisers you apply can penetrate the skin more thoroughly when that surface level is gone, and it stops your skin from becoming congested and dull-looking. This is probably our FAVOURITE step in our 7 essential steps every skincare routine needs because it gives the most dramatic results INSTANTLY.

If you’re keen to know more and want to get more out of your exfoliation, then shoot us through an email one of our team will send you our guide – “Getting the most out of Exfoliating with our advanced ingredient options”. Your skin will be glad you did!

CORRECT –

Make sure you apply those corrective serums morning and night, every day.

In the morning, think about your serum as a defense mechanism to protect your skin from environmental damage (and it should include an antioxidant) and at night you want to enhance and heal those sparkly new cells. Here’s a huge range of Serums available from Museo.

MOISTURISE –

Apply the RIGHT KIND of moisturizer morning and night.

Choose something light and wearable during the day and thick and rich for your overnight hydration.
Remember! Makeup works best and sits much nicer on the skin if your skin is well hydrated and well exfoliated – so for perfect photos, make sure to do both regularly. Choose from day creams and night creams online.

EYES –

Apply every day, preferably at night.

Eye cream is absolutely necessary to ensure you hydrate the sensitive skin around the eyes and minimize the beginning of fine lines. The earlier you start with eye creams, the later the wrinkles appear – but it’s never too late to start. For those with aging skins, wrinkles, and bags around the eyes, there are specific creams with powerful active ingredients designed to plumpen and refresh this area, giving you a more youthful result. This is absolutely one of our favourite products.

MASK –

Choose something specifically for your personal skin concerns, and apply 1-2 times a week

If you’ve ever given a skincare routine a go and haven’t quite seen the results you wanted, THIS may be the missing link. With a higher amount of active and targeted ingredients in most face masks, you can significantly reduce breakouts or give your skin an extra boost of hydration which seriously shows in your skin. Sleep-in masks are very popular and perfect to slap on and flop into bed within a minute.

SUNSCREEN –

PLEASE apply sunscreen every day, even when it's cloudy out or you don’t think you will leave the house

This is an ABSOLUTE MUST for everyone. Sunscreen protects your skin from UV rays, which did you know is the single highest factor contributing to aging? Watch out for the sun, protect your skin and it will reward you for years to come.

If you haven’t been doing the right thing by your skin, there is no better time to start than now. Book a zoom consultation with any of our Skin Specialists to choose the right products for you, or shop our amazing range of skin care products online.

WHAT SKIN ROUTINE IS BEST?

YOUR SUPERCHARGED AT-HOME SKINCARE ROUTINE

Social isolation isn’t the most fun thing we have ever done, but it certainly has some benefits for your skin. Less makeup means less blemishes and more room for your skin to breathe, all of which is a good thing. So even though you can’t get your usual skin treatments right now, the team at Museo are dedicated to helping you have your absolute best skin, pandemic style.

KEEP YOUR SKIN CLEAN

As much as you possibly can, keep anything heavy off your face. Moisturiser, a little eyebrow and mascara is plenty for working from home, so use this opportunity to let your skin truly breathe during this period of isolation. Couple that with deep cleansing daily and you’re sure to have skin as smooth as a baby’s bum in no time.

HOW CAN I DO DEEP CLEANSING AT HOME?

We could all use a little more routine in our lives right now, and a skincare routine is an easy one to implement that will have HUGE benefits for your face. Because we are all at home more regularly, it’s easier to stick to a home skincare routine and it can be a beautiful way to start and end your day and give you some real structure in these isolated days. For a supercharged, deep cleanse the O Sonic Ultimate Cleansing Brush is guaranteed to unclog 99.5% of your pores and remove makeup residue by 98.5% for TRULY clean skin. You can grab the O Sonic Ultimate Cleansing Brush in our ‘The Rock ‘n’ Roll Power Couple’ Isolation Indulgence package here.

If you don’t have a cleanser or moisturiser that you regularly use or that has been recommended for you by the team from Museo, please email us on info@museo.com.au and we can recommend some products for you.

MAKE YOUR DIET HEALTHIER

Now is the time to truly think about what you’re putting inside your body. Whether you’re choosing healthier foods to keep your immune system up or want to add in supplements to ensure you are getting a good dose of superfoods to nourish your skin, now is the time. Less commute time means more food time, so really think about what you’re eating, eat more whole foods and clean foods. A cleansing tea would be wonderful right now, it’s not only a great way to break up your day but your skin will absolutely thank you for it. You can buy our Miss Vitality Elevate Cleansing Tea online here, or try the Miss Vitality Glow Tea, designed to support your liver and get your skin glimmering as part of our Sip + Soak Isolation Indulgence Package.

BEST ANTI-AGING INGREDIENTS

Because we are spending more time inside, advancing your home routine to multi-layer products with potent active ingredients is ideal for right now. Products containing retinol, lactic and salicylic acid remove redundant skin cells helping to resurface and refine your skin, reducing dehydration and fine lines. We can ensure you are maximising these ingredients and getting fabulous skin benefits as long as you have the correct at-home products to get you as close to an in-clinic peel (in consultation with your skin specialist at Museo!) that we can. NOW is the time to improve your skin and step up that home routine while we are all being forced to be inside anyway?

Include an additive to your day cream, like our favourite chirally corrected O Cosmedics Pure C and BHA with 5% L’Ascorbic Acid with encapsulated BHA. It offers daily exfoliation and antioxidant benefits second to none. Perfect for all skins in fact an absolute daily must for keeping your skin looking fresh as well as being protected. This is our fan-favourite product – buy yours here

WE have lots of options for those who want more advanced products and SERIOUS change in their skin during self Isolation. Speak to our Skin Specialists by emailing info@museo.com.au to book a virtual skin consult today about how you can advance your skincare during this time from home.

WHAT IS THE BEST HOME DEVICE FOR WRINKLES?

For those seriously missing their in-salon advanced skin treatments, there are lots of things that can be done at home, with advice and guidance from the Skin Specialists at Museo, to deliver the best results you can get during this period. We are offering The Rock ‘n’ Roll Power Couple Isolation Indulgence package for those looking to create serious results at home. The O-Skin Inject Dermal Roller allows you to create a micro-needling experience at home, to effectively and visibly rejuvenate, and regenerate the skin. Shop this fantastic package here.

If you took the time to work out your skin goals at the start of the year, now is just the time to make sure you continue on the course, even from home.

For Museo skin clients your skin specialist would have been in touch about your home care routine for those on advanced programs, so make sure you check your inbox for details.

NEW YEAR NEW SKIN

If you’re anything like the team at Museo, then January means lots of thinking about what you want to achieve through the year, coupled with plenty of sun exposure. It’s starting to make us all think a bit fatalistically about what we are going to look like as we age, and what we can work on as we shift our habits and focus on what positive things we are going to implement from better exercise and diet to having our best ever skin.

Here’s our recommendation for a great action plan moving through the seasons this year. PLUS if you make it all the way to the end of this post, we have a great offer for our first 20 callers... Read on!

SUMMER

Summer skin is all about hydration and preventative measures. If you haven’t already got it sorted, get yourself a good quality every day wear facial sunscreen (or talk to the team at Museo about our favourites) to ensure that you’re protecting your skin as much as you can. Focus on drinking 3-4L of water a day to ensure great whole-body hydration and to help you develop the habit of drinking more water each day. Look for great moisturisers that offer you extra hydration and care after sun, particularly anything with beautiful natural ingredients and that are lightweight, to avoid greasy looking skin in summer

Now is also the time to focus on developing good habits – whether you’re a teen trying to get your cleanse and moisturising routine right or a mid-aging to mature skin  switching to anti-aging serums and regular treatments, now is the time to develop the habits that will hold you in good stead throughout the year.

AUTUMN

Now is the time to slough away the dead skin after a season of Summer. Microdermabrasion and dermal peel treatments are perfect in Autumn, revealing beautiful fresh new skin without the intensity of something like IPL.  As the seasons shift, now is the time to start cracking out the more active-ingredient loaded products, like anything including retinol or peptides to encourage your skin to renew and recycle. By now you should have a strong, regular skin routine and so now is the time to start adding on to that solid foundation with serums and facial scrubs that haven’t been part of your routine before. This is a habit that will need to go with you throughout the year, but now is a great time to expand your skincare routine. Autumn is also a great time to look at your whole health and how that is coming out in your skin. Whether it's cleansing teas, supplements or refocussing your diet around clean foods, this is the season to develop beautiful skin from the inside out.

If you’re serious about getting rid of hair once and for all in 2020, now is also the time to look at your IPL treatments. IPL treatments need to be done away from the heat of summer and need some serious time to allow them to work best – if you start your treatments in Spring, you’re not going to have enough time to reach your end goal. Instead, start in Autumn or Winter and be ready for silky smooth legs and underarms all spring and summer long!

WINTER

Winter is the time when we focus on our more intense, results-driven treatments. Winter offers our skin a break from the sun's UV rays and so brand new baby skin that is produced by these more intense treatments won’t be immediately damaged. Think IPL treatments to reduce fine lines and redness; chemical peels to give you a more luminous glow and remove the outer layers of your dermis or micro-needling to produce beautiful plump, glowing skin. Think about your treatments as a series of preventative measures and stack them together in a skin plan to ensure the best results from a good mix of treatments. Speak to any of our Skin Specialists to create your Personalised Skin Plan with Museo.

SPRING

Spring is a time of growth and renewal, and this is absolutely true for your skin too. After a winter of intensive treatments, your beautiful, fresh new skin will be out in full force – so it’s important that we treat our skin better than we have previously. We want to layer all the different habits and products we have used through the year at this time as we head into peak party season, so make sure you’re continuing to apply all your serums and moisturisers, cleansing your face properly and having regular facial treatments to keep the results of your hard work looking beautiful. A soothing facial including alginate can be wonderful at this time of year after all your intensive treatments or focus on your mental health as we head into one of the busiest periods of the year with one of our mindfulness facials.

If your focus for the year is to take better care of your skin, or simply to have better skin, this is absolutely your year to achieve it. The team at Museo wants you to love the skin you’re in and help you develop good habits for the future of your skin. We have a team of Skin Specialists on hand to answer any questions you have, recommend treatments and direct you towards the right products for at-home care, all as part of your Personalised Skin Plan.

If you would like to up your skin game in 2020, we would love to invite you to a complimentary skin consultation (for the first 20 appointments made) with any of our specialists to put you on the path to better skin. PLUS we will help you kick-start your home-care routine with FREE AHA Gel Milk Cleanser with every O Cosmedics or NEW Ginger & Me Care cream and SPF product purchased! That's a total $109 in bonuses - all for deciding to dedicate to your skin in 2020*! Simply mention this offer from our blog when you call 9371 2299 to secure your consultation.

*Terms and conditions apply. Not to be used in conjunction with any other offer. Only available to the first 20 bookings made before February 29 2020.

Nourished Life | Spring Offer | Healthy glow from the inside out | Museo Day Spa

Nourish yourself from the inside out

We all know that beauty starts from the inside out, but most of us have resigned to the fact that our diets simply aren’t as clean or nutritious as they should be. Whether it’s a lack of one particular vitamin or mineral, a bit too much wine over the weekend or just a flat-out busy week with the kids and sport and school and simply making the wrong food choices on the fly; there is always more that we can be doing to nourish ourselves, treat ourselves right and build that truly healthy glow from the inside out.

Nourishing eating is one of the most talked-about concepts in the beauty industry. Making sure that the things you’re putting in your body are designed to truly make you feel well and support your skin goals. We spoke about how during winter we tend to eat more rich and nourishing foods, but that can extend into spring and summer with the right combination of foods. Think avocado for good fats, quinoa for magnesium and iron, pomegranate for a rich dose of Vitamin C and Miso for natural probiotics and a healthy gut. By choosing a great combination of foods to fuel you, you will not only feel better but increase the nutrients you’re consuming that your body needs to aid in renewal of your skin, digestion and better hair growth.

To accompany good, nourishing food, we recommend many of our clients look into adding some form of supplement to their diet. We have been working with the naturopaths at Miss Vitality for months in training and learning about their fantastic range - and of course, trying it out on ourselves - and we are astounded with the results. A cup of the Miss Vitality Clean Tea contains fantastic superfoods, detoxifying plants and a range of holistic wellness modalities to nourish your body, providing it with the support it needs to naturally give you that youthful glow and make you feel your best. This new range of organic, plant-based supplements, specifically designed to help you have better skin and feel better within yourself, is a game-changer for our skin transformation clients and we are loving seeing the results.

This spring at Museo we are encouraging you to live a Nourished Life with our Spring Offer.
Begin your experience in the Museo Day Spa with a luxurious foot soak in our relaxation lounge accompanied by cup of our favorite Miss Vitality Clean Tea to nourish you from the inside out. Transition into your spa suite to commence your complete body massage from head to toe with warmed oil, accompanied by incredible sound therapy from Tibetan Singing Bowls to ease stress and help with healing. Finish with a mini skin facial workout, designed to reveal silky smooth skin through the use of our Pevonia Vitaminic Concentrate designed to combat dryness and dehydration with antioxidant action. Complete your experience with our seasonal nourishing food bowl to fuel you as you go about your day. Book in for this nourishing seasonal experience here.

We encourage you to think more carefully about what it is that you're putting into your body and what you can do to live a more nourishing life this spring. Speak to your skin specialty in clinic about the range of Miss Vitality products and how some of these supplements may help you to truly nourish yourself and transform your skin in the process. We can’t wait to see your beautiful new season glow!

WINTER IS A TIME FOR RESTORATION

Winter truly is a time for restoration. We naturally spend more time in doors, eat richer and more nourishing foods and take things a little slower. It’s not just your mind and body that requires restoration at this time of the year however – it’s also your skin and your hair. With the harsh sun and the outdoorsy lifestyle gone for a few months, Winter is the time to make the serious changes to your skin and your hair.

SKIN

So, the cooler months is the time to get down to serious skin programming whether you’re planning your annual Winter series of maintenance peels (choose from a series of 3 or 6 peels) to ensure your skin stays in prime condition or you’re at the beginning stage of wanting to combat skin concerns and work towards your skin goals by initiating a series of micro skin needling or IPL treatments or perhaps even starting your own bespoke skin program with a mix of modalities suitable for your skin. Our treatments offer incredible transformations to the skin and by having them in winter any down time works well considering it is not beach weather and there are generally less social occasions in the winter period. For those of you wanting to start IPL hair removal, the winter clothes attire fits in perfectly with these treatments, particularly for leg hair removal as your legs are generally covered up in the cooler months adding a layer of protection from UVA and UVB rays. You do have to be really careful in summer having micro needling and IPL treatments, so there’s a lot less to think about in winter and you are less likely to suffer damage from the sun and reverse any of the good work done in clinic.

IPL for Hair removal can take a number of sessions to deliver that silky smooth skin we all want! Whether you’re getting IPL for Pigmentation, Vascular treatments or Hair removal, we encourage you to get your IPL treatments started as we lead into winter so that you will have reached your skin goals or be hair free by next Summer.  Book a skin or IPL consult today where you can ask us all the questions and have a good understanding of what can be achieved.

SPA

In Spa, winter sees a huge rise in warming body treatments. Whether it’s warm oil massages, aromatherapy soaks or whole-body scrubs, we love to indulge our clients in this time of restoration. Winter is a great time to treat yourself to a beautiful treatment in spa, then head home and snuggle up on the couch and just relax. A body brushing or scrub treatment encourages increased blood flow to aid in healing and skin firmness over your whole body, while a soak is an indulgent treat that can be accompanied by something more restorative, like aromatherapy or combined with any of our other body treatments. One of the best recommendations from our team of therapists is to book your soak or massage late in the day on either a Friday or Saturday afternoon so you can have your treatment and then head home to relax – hopefully with a glass of wine – and simply slip into the weekend. It’s an indulgent way to relax and restore your body and mind.

HAIR

The sun, ocean and swimming pools can have massive effects on our hair during the summer months and winter is the optimum time to restore and renew even the most damaged locks. Deep conditioning treatments allow you to deeply repair and strengthen the inner structure of the hair,  and so during winter, we recommend indulging in one of our intensive repair leave-in treatments or the Davines Circle Mask Ritual treatments that are clinically proven to remedy any hair issue. A scalp massage is another way to really help your hair recover – by directing more blood flow to the head through massage, you encourage healing in the hair follicle, meaning that the new hair growth is stronger and nutrient rich . Both of these treatments can be delivered alongside Skin Clinic or Day Spa treatments

This winter, indulge in the restorative powers of the Winter Wind Down. Choose from our two popular relaxation treatments, either the warming thermal massage or the thermal body brushing and mineral mud wrap. Either choice is then combined with a shampoo, scalp massage and style blow-dry to leave you feeling relaxed and rejuvenated while leaving Museo looking absolutely restored. You can shop our Winter Wind Down as a gift for yourself or a treat for your favourite person here.

WHY ARE WE MULTI-MASKING?

We know that our skin is made up of different ‘zones’ – from those with oily T Zones to super dry cheeks or the area around your eyes that just ages and acts differently. We also know that different areas of our hair act differently – oily roots or dry split ends are a common problem for our clients.

But what are we doing to help resolve these issues? The answer should be Multi-Masking – and it applies to both your skin and your hair.

If you have watched anything in the beauty space for the past few years, you will have heard about multi-masking, or the technique of applying different masks to different areas of your face to treat different skin issues. One mask like the new Pevonia Bright Green Apple Mask down your T Zone that reduces visible pores and is balancing, oil controlling and mattifying  then on your cheeks a Pevonia Collagen Peptide Mask that plumps and hydrates and for those skins with pesky breakouts along the jaw and chin a Pevonia Pure Skin Charcoal Mask that has astringent properties works a treat. Speak to your in-spa therapist today about purchasing any of these products or what will offer you the best results for your skin. While this might sound like a lot of products, it’s really no different from applying a day moisturiser, a night moisturiser and an eye cream – but it can have dramatic results.

By treating each area of your face independently, you’re able to best tackle the individual areas, rather than applying a ‘one size fits all’ approach to your skin. It’s about being able to customise and personalise your mask for the results you want, and it ensures that your skin will look its best. Speak to any of our Museo skin therapists today about which take-home masking products across our Pevonia and O Cosmedics ranges will be best suited for your different skin and ageing concerns. We even have a mask you can sleep in overnight that doesn’t mess up your pillow and leaves you with a well-hydrated skin and more luminous skin to start the day. It is also an excellent addition to your home routine to give your skin a spruce-up prior to social functions.

Multi-masking is now also here for your hair, and available at Museo. Through the fabulous range from Davines, you can apply an oil-correcting mask to your roots, a smoothing mask to your mid lengths which are often prone to flyaways and a hydrating and repairing mask to your ends to stop breakage and give you smooth, touchable hair. The reason this multi-masking works is pretty simple – active ingredients present in each mask are what is needed to course correct particular issues. The Hyaluronicnic Acid found in ‘The Quick Fix Circle’ for instance won’t do a whole lot to your oily ends – but it binds to the hair structure and provides serious hydration that you need in your mid lengths and ends. Its about using the appropriate product for the right part of your hair.

Museo are now selling The Circle Chronicles by Davines in store, offering you the chance to see the great results of multi-masking for yourself. Whether it’s as an in-salon treatment or the cutest ever take home pouches, treat your hair to a good time and try multi-masking for yourself.  Treat yourself to a night in and a bit of multi-masking. Apply your masks to your face and your masks to your hair, run a bath and enjoy a glass of wine before you rinse everything off. Your face and your hair will thank you.

DIAMOND MICRODERMABRASION VS. CRYSTAL MICRODERMABRASION

Not all Microdermabrasion was created equal. Microdermabrasion certainly isn’t the new kid on the skincare block, but when it’s combined with other treatments like chemical peels or hydrating masks, it can pack a serious punch and show significant results in your skin.

There is a real lack of information available for clients about the different kinds of microdermabrasion. We have often had guests come to Museo in Perth saying that they have had many series of microdermabrasion treatments in the past, but have only ever had one kind of microdermabrasion. The different kinds of microdermabrasion should really be used for different skin types and to achieve different results – so what options are open to you for microdermabrasion?

DIAMOND MICRODERMABRASION

Diamond Microdermabrasion is the most common type you will find in most beauticians and Spa’s. These treatments utilise a diamond-tipped want that is used to scratch or sand away the top level of the skin. The machine’s vacuum system then sucks away dirt, debris and dead skin cells. This is often the first option people are offered if they have never had microdermabrasion before as it is effective even on sensitive skins and gives a deep exfoliation. This is a fantastic treatment choice for younger clients with more supple skin or as a booster treatment just before a big event – like your wedding or birthday – to give you a real glow in your skin. It is, however, not as effective on irregular surfaces – like wrinkles and lines – as there are no crystals that fit the exact regularities of the skin.

CRYSTAL MICRODERMABRASION

Now we are getting into the serious stuff. Crystal Microdermabrasion is an ablative (meaning minimally invasive) procedure designed to remove the outer surface of the skin by means of force or friction. A crystal microdermabrasion treatment involves a hand-held device that propels a high-speed flow of aluminium oxide crystals at the skin. Think similar to sandblasting, while the vacuum system sucks away the dirt, dead skin cells and used crystals from the surface of your skin. The ablative nature can sound more extreme than it really is. Yes, it does remove the outer layer of skin but a slight reddening skin is all that occurs afterwards as well as a feeling like your kin has a little windburn. No downtime really and after a day or so the skin feels relatively back to normal and you can wear makeup the following day – not a problem. Aluminium oxide crystals are the most commonly used abrasive agent as they are one of the hardest minerals on the planet and its irregular crystal shape means that it can get into harder-to-reach crevices like wrinkles, lines and particularly in the lines of your face around the nose and mouth. Aluminum Oxide is also an inert material and it causes no allergic or adverse reactions. It is not toxic when ingested and is non-carcinogenic. Crystal microdermabrasion is going to be too strong for sensitive or young skins but achieves much more effective results on older or sun damaged skins that really need a push to see that same glowing, shiny result. Crystal Microdermabrasion will produce a deeper peel or exfoliation result than a Diamond Microdermabrasion treatment, making it a great solution if you’ve tried microdermabrasion before but want to see more significant results.

When we talk about Diamond Microdermabrasion vs. Crystal Microdermabrasion, we are talking about two different techniques designed to achieve the same result on different skin types. Crystal Microdermabrasion is more like sandblasting – serious clean for hard to reach areas, while Diamond Microdermabrasion can be compared to Sandpaper – best used on softer surfaces but will still deliver the goods. If you’re keen to try out either Crystal Microdermabrasion or Diamond Microdermabrasion, we are combining the treatments with our other great treatments as part of our Great Skin is The New Black package. This really is designed to give you your best ever skin, with a treatment combination that includes microdermabrasion, a vitamin-boosting dermal peel and hydrating mask, plus a few bonus extra’s thrown in. Don’t miss out on your chance to get GREAT skin, as there are a really limited number of these packs available. Call the Spa to book your appointment today.

Men's Skincare Treatments in Perth

Men's Skincare Treatments in Perth

We talk a lot about skin care around these parts, but usually in the frame of women and the skin issues that women face. But it’s not just the ladies who need to look after their skin – particularly as we age, often it’s men who need an extra helping hand with their skin, having been a bit more lax in their skincare regime between the ages of 0 and 40.

Men’s skincare treatments aren’t just for the metro in our life who wants to look younger than he is on his birth certificate. Great skin is something everyone wants to achieve, but for men we use different treatments to target the specific issues that they face – dryness from shaving implements, more sun damage from not wearing sunscreen (ever) and excess production of sebum (oily skin) in the T Zone particularly. Most importantly there are fundamental, biological differences in the skin on men and women, brought about due to different hormone balances in our bodies. In general, men’s skin is tougher and thicker, brought on by testosterone, while women’s skin remains sensitive and tender through their life. Men have larger and more hair follicles

The Museo Men’s Prescription Facial

If your husband is complaining about looking old or his skin sagging, this is a great way to get him to do something about it that doesn’t cost the earth and won’t take too much time. Before any treatment, we share our specialist diagnosis and an honest appraisal of the condition of your skin, so you know exactly what we are working on. We cleanse, exfoliate and steam before adding some fantastic products tailored to their skin. We finish with a mask to promote a deep level of relaxation and to really revitalise the skin. BONUS you can upgrade to add booster extracts that will intensely target skin concerns and ensure your skin stays better for longer.

Dermal Peels

Dermal peels can be a great treatment for men to make serious change to their skin. They work deep in the skin to encourage the production of new, fresh and bright skin cells and can be tailored to each persons’ requirements. We use enzyme peels for entry level peeling and work up to dermal peels depending on the skin concerns. They help to reduce pore size, battle with sebum and replenish fine lines and wrinkles – so these really are a great go to if you’re fellow is hesitant about the idea of moisturisers and masks.

IPL Helps reduce the appearance of pigmentation by targeting the pigment in the skin and ablating it as well as clearing vascular and reddened skins. Why use IPL for Hair Removal?

Why use IPL for Hair Removal?

There’s no time like winter to remind you that body hair really is a pain in the butt. In summer, we tend to keep on top of things like shaving our legs or armpits or bikini lines because we have to – but in winter, with pants, leggings and stockings all the rage, it can be really easy to just let it grow out for the colder months. And that can be a scary thing to wake up to.

Luckily, Winter is the perfect time to take advantage of great IPL for Hair Removal offers at Museo. We spoke last week about the incredible ways that IPL can be used for Photo Rejuvenation (or creating beautiful skin), but IPL as a treatment is probably more famous for its application in hair removal.

For permanent hair removal, a light pulse is applied to the skin, whether that’s on your bikini line, legs, underarms or face, and the light is absorbed into the dark pigment of the hair – much like how sunlight is more readily absorbed into black clothes in summer. The energy from the light pigment is ultimately translated into the follicle and causes damage to the follicle, with the aim of destroying the hair root and reducing hair growth.

Winter is the perfect time to have IPL for Hair Removal treatments because, as with IPL for Photo Rejuvenation, the treatments do affect to the skin, making it highly susceptible to UV light and damage from the sun – and in Winter, we don’t tend to see as much of that. Aftercare is incredibly important in IPL for Hair Removal, and the team at Museo Skin + Spa + Hair can offer you some great products to ensure that your skin heals and to ensure that you are protected from UV damage during this sensitive time. Similarly to IPL for Photo Rejuvenation, IPL for Hair Removal requires a few treatments spaced a few weeks apart for most effective results – and that means that between winter and summer you have enough time to get your treatments done and have silky smooth legs beside the pool come December!

Compared to waxing or shaving for the rest of your life (groan), IPL is an incredibly cost-effective treatment that delivers significant results. Unlike at-home IPL for Hair Removal treatment options, those offered in salon are both more targeted and more powerfully, delivered and administered by experts in a controlled clinic environment. This ensures that the treatment is delivered exactly where you want it to be and that it is done correctly.

Museo Skin + Spa + Hair are offering IPL for Hair Removal to our clients in our beautiful Spa space and with some amazing offers available to you today. Read more about our IPL Offering here.

Why use IPL for Photo Rejuvenation and your best skin?

Here at Museo, we have been banging on a lot lately about IPL – and it’s for good reason. If you have ever been into our Spa before, you know that we don’t rave about something unless we all love it and it’s absolutely incredible, tried and tested on our own Museo team. And IPL is one of those services that just continues to outstrip the others in performance.

IPL is the ideal option for instantly treating and clearing reddened skins with facial vascular blemishes such as broken capillaries, spider veins, thread veins, red spots and cherry angiomas. Regain an even balanced skin tone and treat skin discolouration issues, pigmentation, sun damage, acne scarring and brown spots, your first treatment gives significant results.

IPL generally comes in two forms – for hair removal and for photo rejuvenation. Today we are talking strictly about IPL Photo Rejuvenation or using IPL to improve the look and feel of your skin. IPL Photo Rejuvenation can treat a variety of benign skin conditions, from age spots to sunspots, ageing, freckles and even redness or rosacea. This treatment offers great relief for customers looking for a gentle, non-invasive treatment that will dramatically improve the look of their skin.

IPL for Photo Rejuvenation utilises a broad spectrum light pulse that is absorbed by the target tissue, no matter whether that’s your face or your back or your décolletage, and in this process affects the surface of the skin, forcing the body to react. The light particles are then removed through your body’s normal process of rejuvenation and extra blood flow and cells are dedicated to your skin to assist in the healing process for the effect of the light pulse. By dedicating more resources to your skin, the body heals more than just the surface level affected by the light pulse - it will work to repair the whole area from the inside out, giving the skin a more even tone and texture and a more youthful appearance.

IPL for Photo Rejuvenation is usually done in a series of treatments to cause rapid rejuvenation of the skincells. Each treatment takes around 20 minutes and we generally recommend a course of 4-6 treatments to ensure really effective results. Winter is the perfect time for IPL for Photo Rejuvenation as the skin is often very sensitive to UV rays after treatment.

Read more about our IPL offering here.

Understanding Vitamin A and how it improves your skin

Understanding Vitamin A and how it improves your skin

Vitamin A is certainly nothing new. But over the last several years in particular, the market has been saturated with options which may be causing you some confusion or perhaps you haven’t as yet understood its phenomenal capabilities and the fact it should definitely be included in your skin care regime.

Start by listening to your therapist and her knowledge when she is speaking about the wonderful effects of Retinol (aka Vitamin A). There are huge benefits for your skin and choosing the right products or derivatives of Retinol for your skin can become confusing, as not all Vitamin A derivatives are created equal! And here’s why……

Where it began

Vitamin A was the first vitamin to be named – hence the vitamin title of ‘A’. The derivatives of Vitamin A are known as retinoids (those found in animal-based foods ) and Carotenoids (found in plant-based foods, most famously in Carrots).

Vitamin A is essential for the health of your skin, as it is an important element of the production of enzymes that build your collagen. It is also essential for the overall health of your vision, your immunity and is an important antioxidant.

Back in the 60’s dermatologist, Dr. Albert Kiligman M.D. PhD began experimenting with a form of Vitamin A (now known as tretinoin with a brand name Retin- A) as a form of topical treatment for acne. Dr Kiligman noticed his acne patients also had fewer lines and wrinkles when compared with his other patients and with this finding came the subsequent patent for Retin – A, the cure for so many unwanted skin conditions.

How it works

Whatever skin concern or issue you may have, Vitamin A has a place in your skincare regime. Acne, wrinkles, and hyperpigmentation, when treated with the correct formulations, can deliver exceptional results. This clever nutrient can communicate with damaged cells to encourage them to function normally again. This is often referred to as DNA repair. Cellular turnover will increase as well as switching on the youth enzymes that produce and stimulate collagen synthesis.

Vitamin A Derivatives

Vitamin A is a lipid-soluble vitamin and refers to the family of ingredients known as Retinoids, renowned for having powerful anti-ageing properties when used in skincare.

When it comes to Vitamin A derivatives, there is a conversion that must take place for the cell to accept the source or derivative of Vitamin A. See the conversion diagram below. Once it is converted to Retinoic acid it will do its magic and start to repair the cell structure.

Retinol is the most common form of Vitamin A, while Retinoic Acid is generally used in prescription skincare and not available for cosmetics as it can be very irritating and reactive on the skin. Retinol Esters are also very commonly used in skincare but are very weak. Trans-Retinol is the optimal configuration of Retinol, so make sure you look out for this when choosing the right skincare products for you.

Choosing the right one for you

Retinoids – also known as the generic term of tretinoin or by brand names such as Retin-A or Differin are only available with a medical prescription.  When applied topically it is accepted directly into the skin cell without any conversion, which makes it a highly effective ingredient for the treatment of lines, wrinkles, hyper-pigmentation and acne.

However, there is a downside. It can be very irritating to the skin. Redness, irritation and peeling of the skin are often experienced and so Retinoids are just mainly used to treat severe acne.

Retinyl Palmitate – This is a combination of retinol and palmitic acid, which although it

converts to retinoic acid, the path is long and by the time it has converted has lost much of its ability to make any difference to the DNA of the cell. You would need a high concentration of retinyl palmitate for it to be significantly effective and most skin care brands who use retinyl palmitate as their sole source of Vitamin A rarely put enough in the cream or serum. Unless retinyl palmitate is combined with other derivatives of Vitamin A, then just adding it to the list of ingredients is inadequate if it appears so far down the list as to render it almost useless.

Retinol –is an over the counter alternative. This is the form of Vitamin A that most cosmeceutical and cosmedical skin care companies will opt for. The conversion to retinoic acid is a two-step process, but despite this, retinol still packs a great punch and I have seen exceptional results when including retinol in-home care regimes and skin treatments modalities like mesotherapy and skin needling.

Retinol, though used most commonly in skincare, is also not a particularly stable ingredient, which means that it is highly susceptible to chemical change when coming into contact with other compounds, including water and oxygen. It’s important to use a range of skincare that offers methods of encapsulation to ensure the Retinol remains stable and delivers the results. Cheaper ranges may not offer this kind of technology, and the Retinol contained within may lose its effectiveness before it even hits the skin.

Last, but absolutely not the least.

Retinaldehyde – This is an important and potent form of Vitamin A, as it requires minimal conversion and causes very little - if any - irritation to the skin. In fact, as you can see by the diagram above, it only requires a one-step conversion and is seen by many as the closest to retinoic acid without all the irritating side effects or need for a prescription.

But again, you will need to take note of where it appears in the ingredient list. For retinaldehyde to be effective it needs to be in a concentration of 0.05% to 0.1% which is equivalent to a 0.025% tretinoin topical cream. This means it should appear towards the top of the active ingredients list in most topical creams.

Unfortunately, retinaldehyde is an expensive ingredient so you won’t find it in most skin care formulations and if so, it will be on the high-end in price (unless they’ve only included the tiniest amount) in which case it would hardly be as effective.

What else

Like many vitamins, Vitamin A is not stable and can lose its potency when interacting with sunlight. So best to use your creams or serums at night when your skin is in a state of repair and there is no risk of exposure to UV light. Store any tubes, droppers or bottles away from your windows so that UV light doesn’t damage the product before it even gets to your skin.

Getting advice

The best place to start when looking for effective beauty solutions is with a skin care professional who can recommend the best option for you. Sure, you could skip this and head to your local supermarket, but it is doubtful you will find any brand with enough of what you need to do anything more than (at best) provide you with antioxidant protection. Your skin care professional (aka Museo Therapist!) will go through any precautions you should take if you are pregnant or have any other allergies or conditions that would prevent you from using topical Vitamin A.

Staying out of the sun.

As with any skin care regimen where the goal is to fight the signs of ageing, you must ensure you are using a well-formulated SPF 30+ sunscreen. No point going to all this effort just to ruin it with more sun damage, right?

Why should it be used in teens, 20s or 30s?

As well as addressing deep-set wrinkles, stimulating the production of collagen, accelerating healing, improving hydration and regulating the melanin responsible for pigmentation (often associated with ageing) Vitamin A can absolutely be used in your 20s and 30s to address fine lines and prevent future wrinkles that occur due to collagen destruction. Vitamin A also controls acne-causing Propionibacterium bacteria, as well as regulating sebum production – both often problems for younger clients.

So that’s it for now.  If Vitamin A is not in your skin care routine then I highly recommend commencing soon, no matter what age. In fact, when it comes to lines and wrinkles the sooner the better.

WHY THE CHANGING OF THE SEASONS AFFECTS YOUR SKIN AND HAIR – AND WHAT TO DO ABOUT IT.

With summer having officially ended and the cooler months coming slowly but surely, we can bet that your skin and hair is absolutely starting to feel it. The changing of seasons is always a difficult time for both your skin and hair, no matter where on the calendar you’re talking about. Year after year, we just seem to put up with the changes, and know that as we adjust to the seasons, this too shall pass.

But no more. The team from Museo Skin + Spa + Hair are here to help you with your seasonal breakdown with the best tips for skin and hair to keep you looking your fresh best as we move into winter…

  1. Deal with damage as it happens

When we start to head from summer into winter, the first thing that usually goes is your skin as cold winds start to ruddy those cheeks and having been in climate-controlled environments for most of summer starts to take its toll. Similarly, for your hair, after 3 months of sun and salt, your locks might be starting to feel a little lack-lustre by the time autumn rolls around. The second you start to notice a chance in the texture of either your skin or hair, start to act. Don’t wait for things to get worse or just choose to ride out the seasons, take action now and get yourself back on track!

  2. Check your skincare

The change of seasons is as good a time as any to make sure that your skin care routine is still on point. During winter, we spend more time inside and surrounded by air-conditioning which can dry out your skin – so focus on intensive night moisturisers to replenish what is being taken out each day. Here at Museo, we recommend all our clients get a little of the Pevonia Vitaminic Serum in their bathroom cabinet. Our whole team use it on their skins, especially through the winter months.

It’s also important to note that in Summer you often only need a light moisturiser and for those with oilier skin, move towards using a lighter serum, applied in the mornings only with your sunscreen (an absolute must!) applied over the top. You can then use a richer moisturiser at night to replenish while you sleep.

  3. Get your IPL Appointments booked!

One of the major benefits of the seasons shifting is for those who are looking to get our brand-new IPL Service for hair removal or photo rejuvenation. For those interested in getting IPL for hair removal, it’s important to wait until the end of the summer months as you can’t expose areas that have been treated (like your legs) to sunshine as it may cause damage. For those looking to get IPL for photo rejuvenation, the summer sun exposes the pigment variations that you are looking to correct with this treatment, and so the end of summer offers a great chance for your skin specialist to identify the zones that most need treatment while your skin is at its most pigmented.

  4. Use a Mask

Make sure you use a nourishing deep conditioning mask to inject moisture back into your dry and dehydrated locks. Aside from that, invest in a hydrating leave-in conditioner to help your hair recover from the summer heat and cope with the winds and heating of winter.

  5. Change your colour

There’s a reason that everyone changes their hair colour, lipsticks and even brow tones as the seasons change – it’s because your colouring changes. We have less of a tan on our face, without that sun exposure, our blondes are less bright and therefore many of our makeup products change. Now is the time to transition to a richer, deeper colour for autumn and winter for your hair, to perfectly compliment the plums, burgundies and darker tones that look incredible with winter fashion.

  6. See your stylist – pronto!

Whether it’s a resurfacing treatment for your skin or a deep conditioning treatment for your hair, one of the most effective ways to make change is to consult your stylist at Museo Skin + Spa + Hair. They will be able to recommend the right treatment products for you, as well as the right hair colours to suit your winter skin tone and beautiful rich moisturisers to take you from one season to another. Let the team from Museo Skin + Spa + Hair look after you as the seasons change and make sure you’re always looking your best going forward. Book online with Museo here.

HOW TO PREPARE YOUR WEDDING SKIN

Your wedding day is one of the biggest moments of your life, or at least the most photographed, and you want to look your absolute best. The easiest way to give yourself that true bridal glow is by having your skin as best it can possibly look, and that requires a little bit of preparation. If you’re reading this 6 months to a year out from your wedding, your right on time for having your most beautiful bridal skin; and if you’re running a bit late, learn the best ways to get your skin in tip-top shape for your big day.

WATER

We can’t stress this enough, but water if your absolute best friend when it comes to dewy, plump, baby-soft skin. Drink as much as you can every day up to the wedding. Have a water bottle on your desk at home, put lemon in your water for a bit of zing, however you can get it in your body, get it in there.

SLEEP

Sleep is vital to good skin and there are no two ways about it. We understand that in the lead up to your wedding sleep might be a bit hard to come by with all the worrying and the great list of things that need to be done before the big day – so make sure you’re maximising any shut-eye you do get. Sleep on a silk pillowcase as this will reduce any wear on your face and keep everything soft and fresh. Put on a powerful serum (like this O Cosmedics one) before you go to bed to allow your skin to absorb all the nutrients it needs while you’re sleeping.

GOOD SKIN HABITS

Not everyone is a cleanse-tone-moisturise kind of person (although you REALLY should be!) – but if you’re not, now is the perfect time to start. Get your skin routine in order and make sure you treat it right by using beautiful products designed to enhance your beauty, not cover it with chemical nasties. From organic skin care products that really give you that healthy glow to mineral foundations and powders, invest in good quality products that won’t clog your pores or cover you in a swathe of things you can’t even pronounce – none of that can be good for your skin.
